Coca-Cola, as part of its core North America mobile application, wanted to further utilize the "sip and scan" feature on bottles and cans to engage users with immersive moble-only experiences, using Augmented Reality (A/R) and other modern technologies.
Utility was brought in by global agency AKQA to work with Coca-Cola on the project as end-to-end design, art and engineering for the Cube Hopper A/R mobile game, allowing users to play the game in mid-air with natural surroundings mixed into the game for an immersive, branded experience.
Using the main Coke app in the App Stores, users can scan the side of the Coke bottle to activate and open the game in A/R, and start playing.
After activating the game in Augmented Reality, users can hop along the fast-moving cubes to collect power-ups and avoid obstacles along the way. Compare your score on the global leaderboard to see where you stand, and challenge friends to come in and join you.
Coca-Cola was able to release the A/R mobile game in record time, also accomplishing something that has very rarely been done - integrating a Unity mobile game into the native iOS and Android Coke applications for all of North America.
